Searching the Calhoun County Court Docket
Where you search a Calhoun County court docket depends on which court took the filing. Start with the Calhoun Tyler Odyssey Portal. It opens the public door to County Clerk criminal and civil records. It covers County Court at Law No. 1 as well. District settings work differently. Those appear on the District Clerk docket page instead. Justice and municipal cases never reach either spot. They stay with the precinct or city court named on the citation. Also know that Texas runs no single public portal. No state site promises every local trial-court record in one place.
Before any docket search, write down the full cause number if you can get it. A party name narrows the results. So do the likely filing year, the case type, and the court level. Then work the search step by step, with each filter doing its part to cut the noise.
- Identify whether the case is district, county-level, justice, municipal, or federal.
- Use Odyssey for County Clerk records, or the District Clerk’s live docket category for district settings.
- Search a full cause number first. In Odyssey, use last name and first name, with an asterisk after a partial name.
- Check the court, filing date, status, and setting before accepting a match.
- Contact the custodian for a certified order, docket sheet, or file the public screen does not provide.
An empty result can stem from several things: the wrong court, a spelling variant, a restricted file, or a system that simply is not connected to that record source. A blank screen is not a legal finding that no case exists.
Three Calhoun County Search Doors
Calhoun County splits its court access by record type and age. Odyssey handles the current County Clerk case search. The District Clerk posts setting links for criminal, civil jury, civil non-jury, Attorney General, and tax matters. Older index books may sit behind Kofile QuickLink. Plats and Commissioners Court items may live in Laserfiche. None of these systems substitutes for another.
| Search door | Best use | Key limit |
|---|---|---|
| Odyssey | County Clerk criminal and civil cases | Confidential records are not viewable |
| District docket page | Current district settings | A setting list is not the full case file |
| Kofile or Laserfiche | Historic indexes, plats, and county records | An index may omit the document image |
When one door comes up empty, look at the court named on the source document and call that clerk. A relocated PDF, a date range quirk, or a portal outage often explains the gap.
Inside a Calhoun County Court Docket
Think of a Calhoun County court docket as a running case history rather than a transcript. Entries may name parties, the court, filings, hearings, motions, orders, and the disposition, though document links depend on the system and record. A district settings PDF shows when matters will be called, but it may not display every filing behind them.
| Cause number | The court-assigned identifier; keep punctuation and any suffix. |
|---|---|
| Case type | Criminal, civil, family, probate, tax, traffic, ordinance, or another category. |
| Docket entry | A recorded filing, order, setting, event, or result. |
| Setting | A scheduled appearance with date, type, court, place, and sometimes mode. |
| Status | Active, disposed, inactive, sealed, expunged, or restricted as the court uses it. |
| Disposition | The outcome, such as judgment, plea, dismissal, acquittal, or another result. |
A clerk-certified copy serves a different purpose than an online screen. If the exact wording of an order matters, request the filed document itself.
Calhoun County Clerk or District Clerk
Two elected clerks split the docket work here. County Clerk Anna M. Goodman keeps County Court at Law cases, county-level criminal and civil files, probate, guardianship, Commissioners Court, and related records. District Clerk Teresa Olascuaga Garcia handles district criminal, civil, family, and tax filings, along with district dockets, copies, jury work, and expunction filings.
Both offices sit at 211 S. Ann Street in Port Lavaca, just in different rooms. The County Clerk is in Suite 102 at 361-553-4411. The District Clerk is in Room 203 at 361-553-4630. When you call or visit, name the court and the case type before you ask for a docket or a copy.
Quick distinction: County Court at Law and probate requests usually begin with the County Clerk. District felony, family, tax, and major civil requests begin with the District Clerk.
Courts That Keep Dockets in Calhoun County
Calhoun County runs several trial-court levels. Which one applies turns on the charge, the claim, or the citation. Because the district courts serve Calhoun plus five neighboring counties, a Victoria judicial address may appear on a case while the Calhoun District Clerk remains the filing contact.
| Court | Docket covers | Starting point |
|---|---|---|
| 24th, 135th, and 267th District Courts | Felonies, family, major civil, land title, and tax | District Clerk docket page |
| County Court at Law No. 1 | Class A and B misdemeanors, civil, probate, guardianship, and juvenile | County Clerk and Odyssey |
| Justice Courts 1 through 5 | Small civil, eviction, and fine-only Class C matters | The named precinct clerk |
| Municipal courts | City Class C and ordinance cases | The issuing city court |
| Southern District of Texas | Federal cases in the Victoria Division | PACER or federal clerk |
Let the citation, notice, or case header control. The court name tells you more than where an event happened.
Calhoun County Multicounty Courts
Three district courts share this region. The 24th, 135th, and 267th Judicial District Courts cover Calhoun, DeWitt, Goliad, Jackson, Refugio, and Victoria Counties. That arrangement can make a search result look misplaced. A judge or court address in Victoria does not by itself place the case there. Check the county field, the cause number, and the filing clerk.
The Texas Judicial Directory helps confirm a current court and its staff. For a Calhoun County case file, the local District Clerk remains the office of record. The Thirteenth Court of Appeals serves as the regional intermediate court. Appellate venue still has to be checked case by case.
Note: A regional court office and the county where a case was filed can differ.
How to Find Calhoun County Court Dates
The District Clerk's live page posts dated PDFs. They cover Attorney General, civil jury, civil non-jury, criminal, and tax settings. Its annual calendar adds broad labels like jury, non-jury, Attorney General in-person or Zoom, and special settings. Helpful as they are, neither proves a hearing still stands as scheduled.
County Court at Law No. 1 works through an online calendar and a signed-order process. The order calls for an e-filed proposed setting at least 48 hours ahead of the planned time. Nothing is official until Judge James R. Beeler signs. Each calendar channel gets full treatment in the Calhoun County court dates resource.
If a notice and a screen disagree, call the clerk or the coordinator. Confirm date, time, room, judge, and hearing type. Also ask whether the setting is in person or remote.
Calhoun County Setting Terms
Local calendars carry short labels because they schedule many matters at once. A label names the kind of event, not necessarily the final hearing. A reset only moves a setting; it does not dismiss the case.
- Arraignment
- A criminal appearance at which the charge and plea are addressed.
- Pretrial
- A case-management setting before trial.
- Non-jury
- A matter heard by the judge without a jury.
- AG docket
- An Attorney General docket, labeled in person or Zoom when stated.
- Special setting
- A hearing placed on a time reserved for that matter.
- Reset
- A new date for a hearing that did not proceed as first set.
Read the current notice alongside the calendar. A category can leave out a room, a party, or a document detail shown elsewhere.
Public Access to Calhoun County Dockets
Texas draws lines between case records, judicial administrative records, and ordinary county administrative records. The Texas Public Information Act does not work as a blanket case-file search law for the judiciary. The right rule depends on the record and the office holding it.
Key Texas rules:
Government Code §552.0035 puts judiciary-held information under court rules or other law.
Rule of Judicial Administration 12 governs judicial records other than case records.
Civil Procedure Rule 76a sets the process for sealing court records.
Family Code §58.005 limits juvenile-record access.
Expunction files, CPS material, juvenile records, protected addresses, and sealed cases may be missing or restricted from view. Ask what authority is required. Never try to bypass access controls.
Calhoun County Records by Era
For older Calhoun County material, a different set of tools applies. The County Clerk’s Records Online page gathers case databases, historical indexes, plats, Commissioners Court files, and related holdings. All of them sit in one place. Kofile can help pin down a historic entry. Laserfiche stores certain plats and Commissioners Court records. Remember that an index line is not the filed document itself. To buy records tied to old indexes, the clerk asks you to call 361-553-4411.
Laserfiche sometimes throws a cookie error. The clerk’s workaround: select Sign Out, then choose Browse. From there, open the County Clerk folders or run a search. This division matters most for land and family research. A deed index, plat, or Commissioners Court record may never surface in a civil docket search. Those items were never civil docket entries in the first place.
Docket Records at Calhoun County Clerks
An online result points you to a case. The clerk supplies the official copies. When you contact the office, provide a cause number, the court, an approximate date, the record type, and the format you want. Also ask whether the copy comes plain or certified, whether redaction is required, and how payment and delivery are handled.
The District Clerk’s 2022 fee table lists $5 for a record search, $1 per page, and $5 for a certificate of true copy. Rates change, so confirm them first. Those figures apply to the District Clerk only, not to the County Clerk, justice, or city offices.
Calhoun County Portal Limits
Odyssey needs both JavaScript and cookies to run. Its shell warns about outdated browsers and expiring sessions. The landing page posts no Calhoun document fee. A case header you can see does not guarantee open access. Not every filed image is open to you.
For a second layer of coverage, turn to the statewide re:SearchTX service. It pulls together cases, filings, text, and hearings where local data is integrated. Coverage varies by county. Any electronic document charge there stands apart from a clerk’s copy, certificate, or mailing fee.
Portal updates can also shift search fields and filters without warning. Before leaving a result, write down the cause number and the court. Never save private data on a shared device. A dead session means starting over at the official Calhoun County landing page rather than trusting a stale cached link. The official county courts directory shows how Calhoun County routes visitors among its court offices. That is the page to consult when links move.

That directory works well as a reset point when a saved portal or dated docket link has shifted. It ties together the County Clerk, District Clerk, County Court at Law, and justice pages. The Calhoun County government home page also posts current navigation and notices.

Trust office pages you reach through current navigation, not old deep links. Dated court files change as new calendars go up.
The local clerk is the final source. If a docket PDF moves, go back to its category page. If a setting looks stale, call before you appear. If an image is missing, request the filed copy from the clerk.
Calhoun County City Court Boundaries
Calhoun County has three incorporated cities in the 2020 Census ranking. They are Port Lavaca, Seadrift, and Point Comfort. Each municipal court takes the city's Class C and ordinance cases. County Court at Law, district, and justice matters run through different clerks and channels.
Port Lavaca offers an online municipal citation and payment form. Search routes include case number, name and birth date, driver-license details, vehicle information, and business name. Payment is not a neutral search step. Port Lavaca states this plainly. Paying online or by phone is a no-contest plea. It produces a judgment of guilt and is reported to DPS as a conviction. Deferred disposition and defensive driving remain options. Anyone weighing them should contact the city court before paying.
Seadrift publishes a municipal calendar category but no case index. Its CivicClerk portal carries city meeting agendas, minutes, and notices, not citation records. The city's general Online Payments route handles utilities through NexBillPay. Treat it as a dead end for court payments. A Seadrift search starts with the citation, the municipal calendar, and a direct call to 361-785-2218.
Point Comfort has a court-cost payment page, not a docket search. Its fields collect a name, cause number, and phone number for the transaction. They return no case activity, no documents, and no hearing calendar. Point Comfort Municipal Court can be reached at 361-987-2661. Calhoun JP3 sits at 361-987-2930. It is a separate office despite sharing a Point Comfort address.
The court printed on the ticket governs all three city routes. A city police or ordinance citation belongs to municipal court. A county or precinct ticket is different. It belongs to the justice court named on it. Class A or B misdemeanors generally land in County Court at Law. Felony and district civil records live with the District Clerk. Coming up empty in a city source does not mean the case is missing. It usually means another clerk holds it.
Port O'Connor is unincorporated. Its JP5 office sits at 508 W. Main Street. A citation there is routed by the justice precinct printed on it. It does not go to some invented city court. Alamo Beach and Magnolia Beach are likewise county communities, not separate incorporated municipal courts.
Calhoun County Court Dockets by City
Each incorporated city has its own access pattern. Start with the municipal court for a city citation, then move to a justice, county, or district source only when the record itself names it. All counts here come from the 2020 Census.
Port Lavaca Docket Search
11,557 · Online citation search and city court contact.
Seadrift Docket Search
995 · Municipal calendar and clerk fallback.
Point Comfort Docket Search
603 · Municipal clerk and payment-only portal.
Every incorporated city is listed here. Unincorporated communities should check the justice precinct or county court named on their paperwork.
