Find Calhoun County Traffic Tickets

Most Calhoun County traffic tickets start with one question: which court issued it? That court controls the record and takes your payment or plea. City police tickets usually land in a municipal court. County or state tickets belong to the justice precinct printed on the citation. The court docket can show the charge, your plea, hearing dates, and the result. It is separate from the state driver file. Paying and contesting carry different legal effects, so confirm your current status before you act.

Calhoun County Traffic Court Records

Who wrote the ticket decides where the case lives. Port Lavaca, Seadrift, and Point Comfort each run a municipal court for city Class C and ordinance matters. Calhoun County also has five justice precincts. Those JP courts handle many county and state traffic citations as fine-only Class C cases. The ticket itself normally names the right court and tells you how to respond.

The clerk of that court keeps the case record. Expect the citation number, charge, filed date, appearance date, plea, settings, judgment, payment, dismissal, or deferred-disposition events. Port Lavaca offers an online search and payment tool. The county posts no Calhoun-wide JP citation search. Point Comfort's vendor takes court-cost payments but is not a public docket search. Seadrift lists a city calendar category rather than a public case index.

The Citation Routes Calhoun Tickets

Pick the court from the ticket, not the nearest town. A Port Lavaca Police citation belongs with Port Lavaca Municipal Court. A county or state ticket near Point Comfort might name JP3. The city court is not always named. Seadrift has the same wrinkle. Municipal Court and JP4 are separate offices there, even when public listings show the same judge name for both. The court caption controls, not the name alone.

Municipal citation: a city Class C or ordinance case filed in the named city court.

JP citation: a fine-only case filed in the justice precinct printed on the ticket.

Unincorporated place: a location such as Port O’Connor, where a ticket should follow its printed precinct rather than an assumed city court.

JP5 sits at 508 W. Main Street in Port O'Connor, reachable at 361-983-2351. That address does not settle where a nearby ticket belongs. Read the ticket first. If the caption is unclear, call the listed court. Do that before you send money or a request.

Looking Up a Traffic Ticket

Gather the citation number and the issuing court before anything else. For Port Lavaca, use the official Municipal Online Services search. You can search by case number or driver's license with state and date of birth. Vehicle information works too. Name with date of birth and business name are also accepted. The form also accepts an SSN. Enter private identifiers only on the official secure court form, and only when necessary.

  1. Read the court name and response terms printed on the ticket.
  2. Use the official court portal if that specific court offers one.
  3. Search with the citation or case number before using broader identity fields.
  4. Call or visit the court counter if no public search exists or the ticket has not posted.
  5. Confirm the appearance date, current status, plea, and amount directly with the court.

Phone and counter access still matter. Port Lavaca Municipal Court sits at 202 N. Virginia Street, 361-552-9793, extensions 226 or 268. Point Comfort Municipal Court answers at 361-987-2661. Seadrift Municipal Court answers at 361-785-2218. For a JP case, call the precinct listed on the ticket, since the county runs no unified docket search or payment page.

Port Lavaca Citation Portal

The city's official court page lays out local jurisdiction and what payment means for your case. Read the Port Lavaca Municipal Court source before acting on the reference that follows.

This court hears moving and nonmoving traffic cases. Commercial-vehicle matters, financial-responsibility and license cases, and city ordinance charges land here too. Other Class C offenses round out the docket. That scope covers Port Lavaca only. It does not turn the vendor into a docket search. Calhoun JP, Point Comfort, and Seadrift cases are left out.

The city's official page also shows the separate search interface. Open the live search and payment source and work from the real page.

Port Lavaca court citation search and payment interface

A search hit only identifies a court case. It does not tell you whether the matter was paid, dismissed, contested, or deferred. When the outcome matters, open the record and confirm the disposition with the clerk.

How to Find Your Traffic Court Date

Start with the appearance date printed on the citation. Then verify it with the issuing court. A portal date can shift through a reset or continuance, meaning the court moved the setting. The safest check compares the ticket, the current court record, and any later signed notice or order.

Citation NumberUse the printed value, such as [court-assigned citation number]; no single local format was confirmed.
CourtThe municipal court or JP precinct that holds the case.
Date and TimeThe appearance, arraignment, trial, or other scheduled setting.
LocationThe court address or approved appearance method supplied by the court.
StatusThe current court label, which must be read with the docket events.

Port Lavaca requires an appearance within ten calendar days of the citation. Mail or an in-person visit both count. A phone call does not count as an appearance, and the city grants no extension by phone. Confirm current judge availability and any off-docket appointments. Seadrift's city calendar lists municipal-court dates. The CivicClerk meeting portal is not a case docket.

Calhoun JP Access Has Gaps

Calhoun County publishes no countywide JP citation lookup, payment form, or current JP fee table. That does not mean the records are missing. It means your fallback is precinct-specific. Use the court named on the citation. Call its clerk, and ask for the current setting, status, copy method, and total due.

JP1 and JP2 share 201 W. Austin in Port Lavaca, at 361-553-4621 and 361-553-4622. JP3 sits at 112 Jones Street in Point Comfort, 361-987-2930. JP4 is at 103 W. Dallas Street in Seadrift, 361-785-7082. JP5 is at 508 W. Main in Port O'Connor, 361-983-2351. Verify staff, hours, and the proper precinct. Do that before you drive over.

Pay or Contest a Ticket

Paying a Calhoun County traffic ticket and fighting it are two different moves in court. Port Lavaca treats an online or telephone payment as a no-contest plea. That payment produces a judgment of guilt. The city reports it to the Texas Department of Public Safety as a conviction. Anyone hoping for defensive driving or deferred disposition should ask. Ask the court about eligibility before sending money.

Do not miss the response date: failure to respond or appear can change the court status and may lead to added court action. Contact the issuing court at once for current instructions.

Calhoun County sets no single fine or failure-to-appear amount across its courts. A Port Lavaca practice does not carry over. It applies only to that court, not another city or JP case. Point Comfort’s GovPayNow page takes court-cost payment fields. Entering payment data there is not a docket search or a court appearance. Seadrift’s NexBillPay page handles utilities and should never be used for court costs.

Port Lavaca Appearance Rules

Port Lavaca’s ten-calendar-day rule is a response requirement. It does not promise a trial inside that window. A mailed or in-person appearance must follow the court’s directions, and a phone call does not count. Get written requests and any defense option to the court before payment changes the record.

Juveniles age sixteen and younger must appear with a parent or guardian, the city page says. It also sets a separate attendance rule for seventeen-year-old alcohol or tobacco matters. Citation information goes only to the defendant or an attorney. Anyone else needs a written request to the judge. Keep in mind these are Port Lavaca rules. They are not a blanket rule for all Calhoun County traffic tickets.

Traffic Court Record vs Driving Record

Two files live in two places. The municipal or JP court keeps the citation case record. The Texas Department of Public Safety keeps the state driver record. A court may report a conviction to DPS. A county court lookup, though, is never a DPS record search. That distinction matters. It matters when you need to confirm what happened in the court case itself.

Neither file tells you what is in the other. A blank public court search may just mean the wrong court or limited online access, and it settles nothing about the state file. In the same way, a state entry will not hand you the citation docket, the filed plea, or the court order.

Copies and Fees

Calhoun municipal and JP courts post no current copy-fee schedule. Ask the issuing court directly about plain copies, certified copies, clerk searches, mailing, and payment methods. A missing fee table never means a free copy. Port Lavaca’s payment tool and Point Comfort’s court-cost form process payments. Neither sets a countywide copy rate.

Give the clerk the citation number, defendant name, court, and approximate date. Say the exact item you want. Ask what the response will be. It could be a docket sheet, a disposition, a payment receipt, or a certified order. For broader hearing context, the Calhoun County court dates resource explains settings. The issuing traffic court remains the source for the citation itself.

Verify the Calhoun Disposition

A search result can prove a citation exists without proving its final result. Read the entries separately: plea, judgment, dismissal, payment, deferred disposition, completion. A paid balance may reflect a judgment. A deferred case may still have terms pending. A hearing date may have been reset. When the precise result matters, get the clerk’s disposition or signed order.

Port Lavaca’s vendor is the strongest online municipal channel. Point Comfort and Seadrift take more direct clerk contact. For every Calhoun County traffic ticket, hold onto the citation, receipts, written requests, and court notices. Confirm any new date with the court before travel. The court record, not a guess from a payment screen, states what the court did.
